KOY,

Vegetarian Crispy Tofu Skin with BBQ Sauce

6:00 PM Unknown 0 Comments

An easy vegetarian dish to prepare yet tasty and good with plain white rice.
The recipe uses fresh tofu skin [aka tau pau] which comes in 2 shapes [round and oblong].  It comes in a packet of 10 pieces.  For this dish, I used the round ones cos' I think it is easier to coat with the batter for frying.
Ingredients
10 pieces fresh tofu skin [tau pau] - round shape ones
5 tbsp oil for pan frying
2-3 dried mushrooms - soaked and cut strips
1 red chilli - cut shreds
20 gm ginger - shredded
Batter - mix together
2 tbsp plain flour
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp sesame seeds
5 tbsp water
2 tsp oil
Sauce Ingredients
3 tbsp tomato sauce
2 tbsp Worchester sauce
1 tbsp HP sauce [I substitute with Worchester sauce]
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
200 ml water

  1. Heat oil in pan [preferably non-stick pan].  Coat tofu skin pieces with batter.
  2. Pan fry until golden brown and crispy on both sides.  Dish and drain.
  3. Remove excess oil.  Saute ginger and mushrooms until fragrant.  Add in the sauce ingredients and chilli.
  4. Bring to boil and return the fried tofu skin to coat well with the sauce.
  5. Dish up and garnish with coriander leaves.  Serve.
